A family’s quiet trip through a remote Chilean valley took an unexpected turn when they noticed something that didn’t belong. Wedged high among the rocks was a disc-shaped metallic object, reflecting sunlight in a way stone never could. It was perfectly still. And it hadn’t been there before.
On November 14, 2025, Fer Valderrama Marín filmed the object while traveling with his family through the Valle del Limarí in Chile’s Coquimbo region, on the edge of the Atacama Desert. The video shows a gleaming, circular object resting on a rocky slope, its surface flashing in the harsh desert sun. Some viewers claim to see shapes or silhouettes on it. Valderrama shared the footage on TikTok, where it quickly went viral and drew international attention, including coverage by Coast to Coast AM.
The reaction was immediate and divided. Believers pointed to the object’s shape, metallic reflection, and remote location as signs of something anomalous. They noted that Limarí and the neighboring Elqui Valley are officially classified by Chilean ufologists as high-activity zones for unexplained phenomena.

Skeptics suggested more ordinary explanations: a discarded tent, mining debris, or industrial equipment. Yet no official statement had been issued by Chilean authorities as of late November 2025.
What gives the case weight is where it happened. Chile is one of the few countries with a government agency dedicated to UFO investigations. Since 1997, the CEFAA has operated under Chile’s aviation authority, investigating unexplained aerial phenomena using pilots, scientists, meteorologists, and military data. When cases remain unsolved, CEFAA publicly acknowledges them.
The Coquimbo region has long been a focal point. Its clear skies host world-class observatories, while its isolation has made it a hotspot for UFO sightings. Towns like Paihuano have even built tourism around the phenomenon.
The new sighting also echoes Chile’s most infamous UFO mystery: the 1998 Paihuano incident, often called the “Chilean Roswell.” Dozens of witnesses, including the town’s mayor, reported a metallic object hovering before splitting in two and crashing into a nearby hill. Power outages, seismic disturbances, and a sudden military presence followed. No official explanation ever satisfied witnesses.
Chile’s files include other notable cases:
