8 December 1901 | Stanisław Stimmler was born in Jarosław, Poland
A Polish Jewish baker. A husband, a father, a neighbour – an ordinary man living an ordinary life.

On 26 March 1942 he was deported to Auschwitz. Prisoner number: 27269
Just seventeen days later, on 12 April 1942, he perished in the camp at the age of 40.
No grave. No farewell. Only a name and a life taken far too soon.

We speak the name of Stanisław Stimmler today to restore a fragment of the dignity that was stolen from him; to remind ourselves that behind every number in the Holocaust there was a human being, a family, a life that once knew the smell of fresh bread each morning.

They managed to erase him from the world in seventeen days. But as long as we still say his name, he lives on.
