Scottish Islander Ellie Chadwick and Welsh Islander Finley Maddock have confirmed they are in love after choosing to leave the Love Island villa together. Finley was dumped by their co-stars; Ellie followed her heart and exited with him. Supporters have voiced concern over the couple’s future, largely tied to Finley’s behaviour inside the villa. In an exclusive conversation with Capital, the pair addressed the most significant practical threat to their relationship head-on and outlined the concrete plan they believe will protect it.
The distance between them was identified early as the potential deal-breaker. Finley is from Wales but lives in London. Ellie still lives in Scotland. Both recognised that sustained long-distance living could render the weeks they spent building their connection inside the villa meaningless. “So the distance topic, this is something we covered early on we knew the distance, so we had to cover it early on otherwise all them weeks would have been pointless,” Finley explained. “So yeah we discussed [Ellie] moving to London.”
That discussion has already produced a clear decision: Ellie is preparing to relocate to London to be closer to Finley. The move is not yet scheduled—“TBC,” in her words—but the intention is firm. She delivered the news to her mother with characteristic humour: “You’re welcome mum, I’m just letting you know now.”
The couple framed the relocation as more than a logistical fix. They see cultural and lifestyle parallels between their home nations. “I feel like Wales and Scotland are very similar and I think we both feel the same like, it’s lovely there but there’s not a lot going on… It’s nice to go back there,” Finley said. Ellie agreed that both places will “forever be our homes,” while adding that she had always known she would not remain in Wales long-term.
They have not confirmed whether they will live together once Ellie arrives in London. The focus remains on closing the geographic gap that both parties treated as the single factor capable of undermining the relationship outside the villa. By addressing the distance issue at the outset and committing to Ellie’s move, the pair present a deliberate strategy designed to convert a potential deal-breaker into a manageable transition.
Their post-villa plans therefore rest on one practical pillar: reducing physical separation so that the connection formed under the intense conditions of Love Island can be tested—and, they hope, sustained—in everyday life.
