A brave little dog stood tall on its hind legs, baring its teeth at a bear – all to protect its trembling owner behind.

In a heart-pounding incident captured on home security footage, a 17-year-old dog named Doodle heroically confronted a bear that smashed through the door of his owner’s home. The courageous canine stood tall, barking fiercely to fend off the massive intruder while his owner, Zoe Cadman, remained fast asleep, unaware of the danger.

The bear, a hulking creature fitted with a large collar, roamed the house for nearly half an hour. Unprovoked, it wandered to the fridge, raiding its contents before casually exiting, leaving both Zoe and Doodle unharmed. While it’s unclear whether the bear was being monitored or belonged to anyone, neighbors in the area, close to the mountains, noted that such visits are not uncommon. One local told NBC Los Angeles, “It’s part of living up here. We’re really close to the mountains, and they were here first. But luckily, knock on wood, they’ve all been really friendly coming through here.”

This incident is not an isolated case of bears interacting closely with humans. Bear encounters, sometimes with devastating consequences, occur around the globe, with approximately 40 attacks reported annually, some proving fatal. In a shocking incident last year, a 40-stone bear at a zoo savagely attacked a man in his mid-20s who had climbed a 13-foot enclosure and jumped into the bear pit. Footage captured by horrified onlookers showed the bear pouncing on the man, clamping its jaws around his shoulders, and tossing him like a rag doll. The man was left bleeding heavily from his head, arms, and hand as emergency services rushed to intervene.

In another tragic case in Luchegorsk, Russia, a massive brown bear broke into a home, fatally mauling and partially consuming an 87-year-old father and his 56-year-old son. Similarly, in Slovakia, a man was killed by a wild brown bear while picking mushrooms in a forest. The bear tore a main artery with a single swipe of its paw, and despite a rescue helicopter locating him, he could not be saved. In the same region, two separate bear attacks just hours apart left a Belarusian woman dead in the Low Tatras mountains and five others injured in Liptovsky Mikulas.

Even in controlled environments, bears can pose significant dangers. In a disturbing incident in Biysk, Russia, a female circus bear riding a hoverboard turned on its handler, Sergei Prichinich, during a performance in front of families. The bear, visibly agitated, lunged at the 48-year-old performer, highlighting the unpredictability of these powerful animals, even in captivity.

A dog came to fac-to-face with a bear after entering a home in Los Angeles County. Security footage from resident Zoe Cadman captured the bear exploring the room before a tense, yet non-violent, face-off with her pet. After sniffing the barking dog, which then retreated, the bear continued its exploration of the house. This incident, reportedly involving a repeat offender, followed earlier sightings of the same bear in the neighborhood, with one neighbor reporting entry via a window.

Doodle’s bravery in the face of such a formidable creature underscores the extraordinary bond between pets and their owners. His fearless stand protected Zoe from a potentially dangerous encounter, proving that even a small, aging dog can rise to the occasion when it matters most.
