A Young Boy Did WHAT? 23 Crocodiles Feast on a Cow in the World’s Deadliest River!

In an astonishing display of nature’s raw power, nine-year-old Banjo Rowe, a local boy from Australia’s Northern Territory, captured jaw-dropping footage of up to 23 saltwater crocodiles tearing into a bloated cow carcass in the infamous Mary River. The video, filmed while fishing with his father at Corroboree billabong, about 110km southeast of Darwin, reveals a chilling scene: the massive reptiles rolling, ripping, and feasting on their prey in a rare and chaotic feeding frenzy.

The Mary River, notorious for hosting the highest density of saltwater crocodiles in the world, is no stranger to these formidable predators. Yet, even seasoned experts were left stunned by the spectacle. Grahame Webb, a leading crocodile researcher, chairman of the international Crocodile Specialist Group, and owner of Darwin’s Crocodylus Park, described the event as “a real strange thing.” He told news.com.au, “Saltwater crocodiles are typically territorial and intolerant of each other, so seeing this many feeding together is extraordinary. They’re usually spread out, not piled on top of one another like this.”

Banjo, with an eagle eye and steady hand, counted 23 crocodiles in the frenzy, including six giants over four meters long and one colossal beast exceeding five meters. “He reckoned it was the best day of his life,” Webb shared, noting that the young adventurer sent him the footage earlier this week. The video captures the crocodiles taking turns attacking the cow, their powerful jaws and death rolls tearing through the carcass in a display both mesmerizing and terrifying.

The location of this wild encounter adds a haunting layer to the story. The footage was shot just upstream from where, in 2013, 26-year-old Darwin football player Sean Cole met a tragic end. Attending a 30th birthday party on the riverbank, Cole took a dare to swim across the Mary River, only to be seized by a massive saltwater crocodile in front of horrified onlookers. The river’s reputation as a predator’s paradise is well-earned, with Webb recalling a night survey downstream where he counted 100 crocodiles over three meters long along just a 200-meter stretch of riverbank, drawn by an abundance of food near a barrage.

This rare footage, captured by a fearless young boy, offers a glimpse into the untamed world of the Mary River, where nature’s most fearsome predators reign supreme. For Banjo Rowe, it was a day of awe and adventure—one that will undoubtedly be etched in his memory forever.
