Last month, hairstylist Summer Brown was having what she thought was a normal day at The Ritual salon in Morgan Hill, California, when a client burst through the doors with an urgent piece of information. The client told Brown that across from the shop, there was a little dog running around who appeared to be lost.
Concerned, Brown went outside to investigate right away. She spotted the dog next to a canal, but as she tried to approach her, the nervous pup got spooked and fell into the water.

It was a steep drop into the canal. The second the dog hit the water, she started to panic.
“She was scared,” Brown told The Dodo. “I could tell right away that she couldn’t swim very well. Her paws were thrashing above the water.”
Brown knew the dog wasn’t going to be able to get out of the canal by herself. Although the water was deep and probably not very clean, Brown didn’t hesitate — she jumped in.

“I just ran,” Brown said. “I didn’t even think about it. The only thing I took off were my white tennis shoes.”
Brown swam up to the dog and wrapped her arms around her. The terrified pup, sensing that Brown was there to help, instantly calmed down.
“As soon as I grabbed her, she just relaxed into my arms,” Brown said.
Not all heroes wear capes ❤️🩹🥹 someone came into our salon saying there’s a dog outside running around so we go outside and the dog fell in the water so my friend jumps up just in time to get the doggie! The dog had a collar and we called the owners and they were there in 10 minutes. We kept her warm with our hair heater lamp❤️🩹 it was so crazy this video wasn’t meant to be a perfect video! Thank you for the comments 🫶🏽🥹
Brown carried the dog to the side of the canal and wrapped her in hair towels from the salon. She brought her inside and came up with a genius way to warm up the cold, wet pup.
“I had her sit on one of our clients that had the heater going above her head,” Brown said.
Luckily, the dog had a collar with a phone number on it, so Brown was able to get in touch with her owners. It turns out that the dog, named Daisy, had escaped from her house earlier that day.
Daisy’s family members drove over to the salon as quickly as they could. They were relieved to reunite with their little escape artist and gave her lots of hugs and kisses.

“As soon as [Daisy] warmed up and saw her family walk through the door, she was back to normal,” Brown said.
Once Daisy was safe and sound with her family, Brown had to get back to her clients. But her brave, heroic rescue was the talk of the salon for weeks.
