SHOCKING SHARK ATTACK FOOTAGE! Fisherman Films Great White Moments After Deadly Student Killings Nearby

In a chilling coincidence that has heightened fears along Cape Cod’s coastline, a fisherman captured dramatic footage of a massive great white shark snatching his catch just hours after a 26-year-old student was fatally attacked by a shark in the same region.

The incident occurred near the island of Nantucket on September 16, one day after Brazilian student Arthur Medici was killed while bodyboarding at Newcomb Hollow Beach on the Massachusetts mainland. The video, which has since gone viral, offers a rare and terrifying close-up view of one of the ocean’s most formidable predators in action.

In the footage, an angler is seen reeling in a striped bass when a dark shadow suddenly materializes beneath the fish. Within seconds, a great white shark erupts from the water, its powerful jaws clamping down on the catch before dragging it away from the line and vanishing into the deep. Gasps and exclamations of shock can be heard from the boat as the fishermen realize what they have just witnessed.

“I was filming my brother reeling in a striped bass when 10 feet from the boat, a great white shark came out of nowhere and ate the fish,” the fisherman’s brother told AOL. At the time, the group was approximately five miles off Nantucket.

The timing of the shark sighting — so soon after the fatal attack — has intensified public concern about shark activity in the waters off Cape Cod. Arthur Medici, described by friends as “sweet and humble,” was attacked around noon while bodyboarding with a companion. Local fisherman and surfer Joe Booth, who was on shore at the time, recalled the horror of the moment.

“I was that guy on the beach screaming, ‘Shark, shark!’ It was like right out of that movie Jaws. This has turned into Amity Island real quick out here,” Booth said, referencing the iconic 1975 film filmed in nearby Martha’s Vineyard.

Witnesses described seeing Medici aggressively kicking at something in the water before his companion dragged him ashore, bleeding heavily. Emergency responders rushed the young man to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, where he was pronounced dead. The beach was subsequently closed to swimmers as authorities assessed the risks.

This tragedy marks the first fatal shark attack in Massachusetts since 1936, when 16-year-old Joseph Troy Jr. was killed while swimming off Mattapoisett. It is also the second shark attack in the region this season, underscoring a notable uptick in encounters between humans and great white sharks in recent years.

Experts attribute the increased shark presence to recovering populations of seals and other marine life in the area, which serve as primary prey for the apex predators. While shark attacks remain statistically rare, the proximity of the fisherman’s encounter to the fatal incident has left many locals and visitors unsettled.

Hayley Williamson, a Cape Cod resident and former lifeguard who was on the beach that day, expressed the community’s disbelief: “We’ve been surfing all morning right here and they were just further down. Right spot, wrong time, I guess.”

As Cape Cod grapples with this latest reminder of the ocean’s untamed power, officials continue to urge caution for swimmers, surfers, and boaters. The viral footage serves not only as a startling visual record but also as a sobering call for respect toward the marine ecosystem that great whites call home.
