In a startling early morning encounter, Fairfax County Police responded to a bizarre report of an alligator roaming outside a motel in Virginia. The incident, which unfolded around 12:10 a.m. on Monday in the 5900 block of Richmond Highway, left officers and motel guests stunned as they came face-to-face with the unexpected reptile.
Police were dispatched after a guest reported spotting the alligator near their room. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the presence of the six-foot-long creature, accompanied by its owner, who was transporting the animal from New York to a zoo in North Carolina. Body camera footage captured the surreal moment, with one officer heard exclaiming, “There is actually an alligator outside of the motel.”
In the video, an officer cautiously approaches, shining a flashlight on the alligator as it is led down the motel walkway, presumably under the owner’s control. To ensure safety, police warned motel residents to bring their pets, particularly dogs, inside to avoid any potential conflicts with the formidable reptile.
Virginia law prohibits the possession of certain exotic animals not native to the state, including alligators. Despite this, the owner was not cited, and Fairfax County Police safely escorted both the owner and the alligator out of the county without incident.
